We take the image you’ve sent us and run it through an editing program. Laser engraving a photo is different than printing it, so we have to make some changes to get the best possible image.

We let the laser do the rest, your photograph is actually being burned into the surface of the wood, you’ll actually see a slight texture to the surface because darker areas are burned more deeply than lighter ones.
When laser engraving a photograph onto wood it’s important to use light colored wood, the lightest areas on the photo will be the color of the wood itself. If we were to use a darker colored wood the photograph would be difficult to see. For this reason we engrave photos mostly on live edge basswood or on live edge maple (message for availability and pricing) with a nice light colored surface. When working with live edge lumber all measurements are approximate, the wood is the size and shape of the tree trunk it was cut from.
